IMMUNITY
Our immune system is our frontline defense against foreign invaders including viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, and even the invasion of cancer cells. It is intelligently designed to know which organisms are beneficial to the body and which are harmful and protect accordingly. Specialized white blood cells occupy every organ of the body and are tuned in to its needs. They can quickly recognize and eliminate a threat by engulfing and dissolving it, releasing a cascade of inflammatory factors that help purge the invader and tagging pathogens with special markers for clearance from the body.
So why doesn’t it always work the way it’s designed to? Just as with sustaining any army, our cellular special forces need energy, rest, and the ability to communicate with each other. They also need to be challenged occasionally to grow stronger. You can provide this to your immune cells by getting sleep, adequate nutrition (adrenals especially), detoxification, engaging with others and nature, and having a resilient mindset (Check out Wim Hof’s experiments with pathogens if you haven’t yet). This season remember how strong you are and support the powerful cells that defend you.
